HERSHEY, Pa.- Another milestone in Giant Center history occurred today with the installation of a new basketball floor, preparing for the first-ever basketball games to be played at Giant Center.
Two games will be played on the new court on Friday evening at 6:30 and 8 p.m. to determine the Lancaster-Lebanon League champions. Cedar Crest, playing in the championships for the third straight season, will take on Hempfield at 6:30 p.m. for the women's title. At 8 p.m., Lancaster and Lancaster Catholic will take the floor to battle for the men's championship.
The floor was manufactured by Horner Flooring Company of Dollar Bay, Michigan. The 60 ft. x 112 ft. Pro-King floor consists of 203 4 ft. x 8 ft. panels and 14 4 ft. x 4 ft. panels. Arenas throughout the U.S. use the Pro-King floor, including the FleetCenter, home of the Boston Celtics, ARCO Arena, home of the Sacramento Kings and the Delta Center, home of the Utah Jazz.
The nets were purchased through Basketball Products International (BPI) of Jefferson, Iowa. The BPI 8000 Portable Backstop is equipped with a regulation Guardian Glass Backboard, Slam Dunk® 180 Vision Rim and backboard and frame padding.
Installation began at 3:30 p.m. and will continue throughout this evening.
