8/15/2006 - Giant Center Earns Accolades

(HERSHEY, PA) -The state-of-the-art Giant Center opened its doors in October 2002 and has since been the area's leading sports and entertainment venue. Throughout the years, Giant Center has hosted a variety of shows, including Cher and Sesame Street Live. It also is home to the 2005-06 Calder Cup champions, the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Because of the constant support of its many fans, Giant Center was recently ranked the world's #9 venue in Billboard magazine (for venues with a capacity of 10,000 to 15,000). The charts are ranked by gross dollars, so the venues listed on the chart are the 10 venues worldwide that grossed the most during the mid-year time period and reported those totals to Billboard. Events occurring from November 1, 2005 through May 16, 2006 were counted for these rankings.

In addition, the readers of Harrisburg Magazine have selected Giant Center at their choice for Performance Hall 2006 Readers Choice. In order to qualify for the honor, the number of votes received had to be equal to or greater than 40 percent of the number of votes the Simply the Best winner received.
